Here, views are wide and expansive, while stories are close and connected. From one local stepping stone to another, follow your curiosity and plot your own experience.

Gateway to Cornwall

This is a historic heartland – the true gateway to mid-Cornwall. Trace Bodmin back to the early 1500s, and you’ll find a town that stands tall. Twice the size of any other nearby, it was defined by splendid, sprawling priories and friaries; a hotbed of religious and commercial activity.

Its geography, connectivity, and status as a strong market town made Bodmin count. And today, it continues to draw people in. Our central location makes Bodmin the base for local adventures, just a short trip away from destinations like Port Isaac, Padstow, Mevagissey and Fowey. This means a holiday here can capture the best of both worlds, from Bodmin’s wild granite moorland to the rugged clifftops of coastal Cornwall.

Location & Connections

By train, hop off at Bodmin Parkway (where public transport takes you on to the town centre). You’ll find Bodmin on Cornwall’s main line, meaning you can pick up services running from both Penzance and London Paddington.
Bodmin’s close transport links make navigation simple. If you’re driving, it’s a direct route from the A30 – Cornwall’s main artery road. The area is well signposted from Exeter and the M5 motorway.
If you’re arriving by bus, you’ll find regular routes from locations like St Austell, Padstow and Liskeard. Transport for Cornwall is your go-to destination for the latest timetables and maps.
From Bodmin, you can explore onwards with short journeys to destinations including the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Boscastle, and the Camel Trail.

Our Shared Footprint

Help us set the scene for a greener Bodmin, preserving this landscape for generations to come. Making small, thoughtful choices – from shopping locally to adventuring by bike – ultimately adds up to a big impact. Lots of local attractions and businesses will refill water bottles, and some even offer discounts for those arriving by green travel.. As you explore, you might also spot signs of habitats and wildlife species – from bats at Bodmin Jail to birds and butterflies in the Beacon Nature Reserve. Embracing sustainability makes Bodmin a healthier and more resilient destination, all year round.

Accessibility

Bodmin is for all of us. This is a place where imaginations roam and everyone can find a warm welcome. The town and its natural landscape include areas that are rugged and historic, but many also include accessible guides, trails and facilities.
